Application Requirements & Eligibility Criteria

We’re looking for individuals who are ready to begin their journey in the world of professional beauty. At MDG Salon, we believe that skill can be taught, but passion, professionalism, and a genuine love for people are what set future stylists apart.

  • Minimum Age: Applicants must be 18+ at the time of application.

  • Education: A high school diploma or GED is preferred. Strong communication skills, attention to detail, and basic math are helpful for client service, color formulations, and managing appointments.

  • Passion & Professionalism: A love for hair, beauty, and self-expression is essential. We look for individuals who are warm, professional, and eager to learn. At MDG Salon, we value creativity and kindness as much as technical skill.

  • Legal Right to Work: Applicants must have valid identification and be legally eligible to work (with a Social Security Number or Taxpayer ID, if applicable). Apprentices are paid employees from day one.

  • Experience: No prior salon experience is required. This is an entry-level training program designed to teach all the skills you’ll need. Prior customer service or salon assistant experience is a plus, but not necessary—your willingness to learn and dedication to the craft are what matter most.

  • Physical Stamina: Styling is active, hands-on work. Applicants should be comfortable standing for extended periods and performing tasks requiring dexterity (e.g., blow-drying, sectioning, or handling shears).

Application Materials

  • A completed application form provided by MDG Salon via our training partner, Atarashii.

Interview & Shadow Experience

  • Applicants will be asked to shadow at least two salon locations for a minimum of two hours each prior to their interview. Short-listed candidates will then participate in an in-person interview to assess communication skills, professionalism, and passion for the industry. A short aptitude exercise (such as a simple sectioning or tool-handling demo) may be included to gauge comfort level with salon work.

References (Optional)

  • Applicants may submit references or letters of recommendation from a teacher, employer, or mentor. While not required, these can strengthen an application.

MDG Salon is proud to offer an 18-month Apprenticeship Program designed to help aspiring stylists build a strong foundation in their career. This hands-on journey combines paid salon work with professional training, preparing you for state licensure and a successful future in the beauty industry.
